About the role
This is an engineering-management role for someone with at least 5 years of production software experience and at least 2 years managing engineering teams, based in New York City. You’ll lead the team responsible for metrics, logs, traces and telemetry systems that help engineers operate distributed AI infrastructure. The role combines observability-platform strategy, reliability and performance ownership with hiring and people management.
What you’ll do
- Set the observability strategy and roadmap.
- Lead development and operation of metrics, logs, traces and telemetry platforms.
- Improve platform reliability, scale and performance.
- Guide architectural decisions across observability infrastructure.
- Partner with infrastructure, security and application teams on instrumentation and platform adoption.
- Plan for capacity across high-ingest telemetry systems.
- Hire and manage engineering teams.
What they’re looking for
- At least 5 years of software-engineering experience with production systems at scale.
- At least 2 years of engineering-management experience.
- Experience building and operating observability platforms.
- Knowledge of SLOs, SLIs, incident management, error budgets and fault-tolerant design.
- Experience scaling telemetry storage and query systems.
- Understanding of distributed systems, performance, resilience and cost trade-offs.
- Experience partnering across infrastructure, security and application engineering.
Nice to have
- OpenTelemetry experience.
- Grafana or Prometheus-compatible systems experience.
- Log aggregation and distributed-tracing experience.
- Kubernetes and cloud-native infrastructure experience.
- Experience supporting cloud, developer-platform or AI/ML infrastructure.
- Capacity-planning experience for telemetry systems.

- Base salary of $182,000–$242,000 per year.
