About the role
This is a remote Lead Engineer role for a hands-on technical leader working globally with distributed teams. You will take technical ownership of complex products and systems, balancing architecture decisions with coding, production support and mentoring. The role supports BJAK's financial technology products and requires strong English communication.
What you’ll do
- Lead technical design and execution for major products, features and engineering initiatives.
- Design scalable systems spanning backend, frontend, APIs, databases and infrastructure.
- Code, prototype, review changes, debug complex issues and solve production problems.
- Balance speed, scalability, reliability and maintainability when making architecture decisions.
- Break unclear product and engineering problems into executable plans.
- Set expectations for code quality, testing, security, observability and reliability.
- Review designs and code while giving actionable feedback to engineers.
- Mentor engineers and improve technical capability across the team.
- Work with engineering, product, design and AI teams to ship products.
- Improve tooling, automation and development practices.
- Monitor systems after release, investigate incidents and fix root causes.

- A strong software engineering background with significant production experience.
- Deep expertise in one or more areas including backend, frontend, distributed systems, APIs, databases or cloud infrastructure.
- Experience making architecture decisions for complex or high-scale systems.
- Strong coding skills and continued interest in hands-on engineering.
- Experience leading major engineering initiatives or providing technical leadership.
- Ability to review code, debug difficult problems and work directly with production systems.
- Clear communication and influence across engineering teams.
- Product judgment connecting technical work to customer and business outcomes.
- Ability to work through ambiguity and own delivery through production.
- Good judgment about when to move quickly, simplify or invest in engineering quality.
- Strong English communication in a distributed international environment.
