About the role
This is a full-time Power BI Architect role in Toronto leading data visualization strategy and the transition to Microsoft Fabric. It suits a senior BI architect fluent in DAX optimization, tenant administration and Fabric governance, not primarily a report builder. You'll bridge data engineering and executive insight, ensuring the Fabric ecosystem is performant, secure and scalable.
What you’ll do
- Lead migration of legacy Business Objects and MicroStrategy reports to Power BI semantic models
- Architect end-to-end solutions within Microsoft Fabric using OneLake, Lakehouses and Warehouses
- Optimize performance using Direct Lake mode, VOrder compression and Delta Lake optimization
- Design high-performance star schemas and composite semantic models
- Run performance tuning with DAX Studio, VertiPaq Analyzer and Tabular Editor 3
- Oversee Power BI Service administration including capacity, workspace security and deployment pipelines
- Implement and optimize Direct Lake connectivity for real-time insights
- Establish Center of Excellence standards for DAX patterns, UI/UX and CI/CD with Git
What they’re looking for
- 7+ years of Business Intelligence experience, including at least 4 years focused on the Power BI stack
- Proven experience with Microsoft Fabric components: Data Factory, Synapse Data Engineering, Data Warehouse
- Mastery of DAX and Power Query, including optimizing M code for query folding
- Strong grasp of the Power BI Admin Portal, tenant settings and Microsoft Entra ID security integration
- Deep understanding of the VertiPaq engine, data compression and partitioning strategies
- Proven experience migrating enterprise-scale environments from Tableau, MicroStrategy or SAP Business Objects
- Strong SQL/T-SQL proficiency and experience with PySpark/notebooks for data transformation in Fabric

- Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate (DP-600)
- Experience with Python/PySpark for data transformation in Fabric notebooks
- Background in SQL Server architecture and T-SQL optimization
