About the role
This is a fully remote backend software engineering role in the United States, building cloud-native systems for healthcare and analytics platforms. It suits an experienced engineer comfortable owning backend architecture, data pipelines and cloud infrastructure with healthcare-data exposure. What you’ll do
- Design and maintain backend applications using Python, SQL and AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, Glue and Step Functions.
- Build serverless functions and microservices supporting data-processing workflows.
- Design cloud data architectures including data lakes, warehouses and ingestion pipelines.
- Develop and maintain ETL pipelines with AWS Glue and Python.
- Integrate APIs, batch processes and real-time streams using Lambda, Glue, Kinesis and S3.
- Administer and optimize Redshift, PostgreSQL, MySQL and Aurora databases.
- Monitor and tune systems for scalability, reliability and cost.
- Ensure workflows meet security and regulatory standards including HIPAA.
- Mentor team members and drive automation, IaC and CI/CD practices.
What they’re looking for
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, informatics or a related quantitative field.
- 5+ years of software development experience with demonstrated technical leadership.
- Strong Python and SQL experience, including stored procedures.
- Advanced SQL and relational database design within AWS.
- Hands-on experience with Lambda, Glue, API Gateway and Step Functions.
- Experience with ETL pipelines, cloud data architectures and serverless systems.
- Required experience with healthcare claims data (HL7, medical or prescription claims).
- Understanding of HIPAA and healthcare data regulations.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Nice to have
- Experience with S3, Kinesis, Redshift and RDS/Aurora.
- DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code.
