About the role
This is a remote director-level role building a brand-new enterprise ontology and knowledge products function at a large, regulated organization in the US. You'd define the semantic modeling, taxonomy and knowledge graph strategy that underpins AI, analytics and decision-making across the business. It suits a leader with deep ontology and semantic technology expertise who wants to build a new team and capability from scratch.
What you’ll do
- Define and own the enterprise ontology strategy, roadmap and portfolio of knowledge products
- Design semantic models, ontologies, taxonomies and entity relationships across domains
- Establish standards and governance for ontology development and lifecycle management
- Build and lead a new team focused on ontology and knowledge products
- Partner with AI, data product, architecture and governance teams on AI-ready data foundations
- Resolve competing definitions and business rules across domains
- Support development of knowledge graphs and semantic retrieval capabilities
- Communicate ontology strategy and outcomes to senior leadership
What they’re looking for
- Deep expertise in ontology design, semantic modeling, taxonomy development and metadata management
- Experience building or scaling enterprise ontology, semantic layer or knowledge graph capabilities
- Strong understanding of AI-enabled data foundations and retrieval-augmented systems
- Experience developing frameworks supporting analytics, automation or AI use cases
- Ability to translate business and technical requirements into ontology solutions
- Strong leadership experience building teams and operating models
Nice to have
- Familiarity with graph databases, semantic layers, metadata platforms or data catalogs
- Experience within healthcare, life sciences, financial services or another regulated industry
What’s on offer
- Base salary of $265,000 to $300,000
