About the role

The Manager, Risk Data Governance role at Bank of Montreal is based in Toronto and leads the organisation's strategy for managing risk-related data as a governed enterprise asset. You will design and maintain data governance frameworks, oversee critical data element programs, and ensure risk data meets regulatory, audit, and reporting requirements. The position sits within the Enterprise Risk and Portfolio Management group in the Data Analytics and Reporting team. You will serve as a trusted advisor across risk, finance, technology, and central data management teams.

What you’ll do

  • Develop and continuously improve data governance and data risk management programs, including governance frameworks, standards, operating models, and controls
  • Lead critical data element governance across data ownership, stewardship, quality management, lineage, and metadata
  • Partner with senior leaders across Risk, Finance, Technology, Audit, and Compliance to embed governance practices that support regulatory reporting and strategic decisions
  • Oversee the identification, assessment, escalation, and remediation of data-related issues and risks
  • Establish governance metrics, key performance indicators, and executive reporting to monitor effectiveness
  • Ensure alignment of governance practices with enterprise data governance standards and regulatory expectations
  • Support audits, regulatory reviews, and compliance activities by maintaining appropriate evidence, controls, and documentation
  • Represent Enterprise Risk and Portfolio Management in enterprise governance initiatives and contribute to evolving data management capabilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Information Management, Data Management, Computer Science, or a related discipline
  • Typically 7 to 10 plus years of experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Risk Management, Regulatory Reporting, Audit, or Compliance
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex governance programs and cross-functional stakeholder engagements
  • Strong knowledge of Data Governance, Data Risk Management, and Enterprise Data Management frameworks
  • Experience leading large-scale issue management and remediation efforts across multiple stakeholder groups
  • Understanding of risk management principles, control frameworks, and regulatory expectations
  • Ability to influence senior leaders and drive accountability without direct authority
  • Exceptional communication, executive presentation, analytical, and strategic problem-solving skills
