This senior backend engineer role focuses on building and operating distributed systems powering WebRTC and Voice SDK products for a global connectivity platform. What you’ll do
- Design, build, maintain and operate backend services supporting WebRTC and Voice SDK products
- Take ownership of backend systems including proxy services, authentication and push notifications
- Improve reliability, scalability and maintainability of customer-facing backend services
- Enhance connection setup, authentication flows and routing for real-time communications
- Build observability infrastructure including logs, metrics, dashboards and alerts
- Improve push notification delivery monitoring and service integrations
- Diagnose production issues across backend services and networking layers
- Improve deployment processes and production readiness for distributed services
- Translate recurring customer and operational issues into durable engineering improvements
- Collaborate across mobile, JavaScript and infrastructure teams
What they’re looking for
- Strong professional experience building and operating backend systems in production
- Strong experience with distributed systems and service-oriented architectures
- Experience with Elixir or Erlang, or strong backend engineering skills with willingness to ramp up quickly
- Experience building or operating real-time, low-latency systems
- Strong understanding of backend fundamentals including authentication and reliability
- Experience owning services throughout their lifecycle including monitoring and scaling
- Experience with Kubernetes, containers and CI/CD
- Strong observability mindset with experience in logging and root-cause analysis
- Good understanding of networking fundamentals
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities
Nice to have
- WebRTC, VoIP or voice/video communications experience
- WebSockets or persistent connection technology experience
- Push notification infrastructure knowledge (APNs, FCM)
- DNS, edge routing or globally distributed systems experience
- Internal diagnostic or observability tools development experience
- Experience building backend services for mobile or JavaScript SDKs
