About the role
This is a senior backend engineering role on refurbed's App squad, fully remote and open worldwide within a European time zone. It suits an experienced Go backend engineer who understands how native mobile apps consume backend services and can guide other teams' API decisions. What you’ll do
- Design, build and maintain core APIs and backend services powering the mobile app and marketplace
- Own operations and monitoring of production systems
- Review designs and API changes across squads for mobile-app fit and flag caveats early
- Integrate third-party systems and APIs into the platform
- Own design and implementation of new features and services
- Identify best practices and suggest engineering-wide standards
- Document solutions with flowcharts, diagrams and clear code
- Mentor junior colleagues and onboard new joiners
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers and business stakeholders
- Occasionally contribute changes to the frontend

- 7+ years designing and building scalable backend services in production
- Strong proficiency in Go and understanding of distributed systems
- Comfort with JavaScript/TypeScript or willingness to learn Node.js
- Experience on a team building and maintaining a native mobile app
- Strong SQL and relational database design skills
- General frontend knowledge for basic tasks
- Excellent English and based in a European time zone

- A degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
- Comfort operating beyond your own squad, reviewing designs for other teams
