About the role
This is a senior data engineering role at Target in Bengaluru, building large-scale data platforms and pipelines using Spark, Scala and BigQuery. What you’ll do
- Design and maintain scalable data pipelines using Spark, Scala and BigQuery
- Build ETL/ELT pipelines for high-volume, complex datasets
- Optimize BigQuery tables through partitioning, clustering and query design
- Implement data quality, validation, monitoring and observability across pipelines
- Troubleshoot data, pipeline and infrastructure issues and drive root-cause fixes
- Collaborate with product, analytics, data science and architecture teams
What they’re looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of software or data engineering experience building large-scale data platforms
- Strong hands-on experience with Apache Spark, Scala and Google BigQuery
- Strong SQL skills with large, complex datasets
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms, preferably GCP
- Understanding of data modeling including fact/dimension models
Nice to have
- Java and Spring Boot experience
- Experience building REST APIs or microservices
- Kafka or other event-streaming technologies
- Python and Shell scripting
- CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions
- Docker containerization experience
- Experience with data quality platforms such as Monte Carlo
- Exposure to AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot or Claude
