About the role
This is a senior engineering management role at Shopify, leading the Data Reliability Engineering group that operates and scales the company's data platform. What you’ll do
- Manage several teams and help them prioritize, build and ship impactful features
- Build and grow high-performing teams through internal development and hiring
- Work directly with teams on data engineering roadmap problems
- Strengthen relationships across the company to unblock teams and deliver products
- Lead the data reliability group including embedded product reliability and tooling/infrastructure operations

- Proven experience leading reliability engineering teams that scale distributed systems
- Proven technical leadership using technologies and frameworks similar to Shopify's stack
- Experience hiring and mentoring data-focused engineers and managers
- Strong familiarity with all components of a typical data stack, from acquisition to serving
- Strong software-centric approach to system scaling and reliability problems
- Exceptional communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Track record building and growing large engineering teams
Nice to have
- Experience working with remote teams across different timezones
- Experience providing reliability to data ecosystems at petabyte scale
