About the role
This is a remote, principal-level AI architecture role at Sanford Health, aimed at a senior technologist who wants to lead enterprise AI/ML design across a large healthcare system. You'd design AI, machine learning and automation solutions meant to improve clinical outcomes, operations and productivity across the organization. The role combines hands-on architecture with governance, evaluating vendors and guiding teams on responsible AI practices.
What you’ll do
- Design enterprise AI architectures spanning generative AI, ML, conversational AI and predictive analytics
- Develop architecture patterns, standards and reference designs
- Build scalable, secure AI platforms across cloud and hybrid environments
- Design integrations connecting AI systems to enterprise applications and data platforms
- Support healthcare interoperability standards including HL7, FHIR, CDA, DICOM and X12
- Establish model governance, monitoring and auditability controls
- Conduct architecture reviews and risk assessments for AI initiatives
- Evaluate emerging AI vendors, platforms and frameworks
- Lead proof-of-concept and pilot initiatives
- Advise clinical, operational and business leaders on AI opportunities
- Mentor engineers, developers and data scientists
What they’re looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or related field
- 7 years of experience in solution, application or data architecture, or software engineering
- 3 years of experience designing AI, machine learning, analytics or automation solutions
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or Google Cloud
- Experience designing enterprise integrations using APIs, event-driven architecture or middleware

- Master's degree
- AI and cloud architecture certifications
