About the role
This is a 7-month contract role in Toronto for a senior data and BI developer/architect within a bank's Business Banking Credit Risk data and analytics team. It suits a hands-on technical builder who can design end-to-end data pipelines and scalable BI solutions using Power BI, Microsoft Fabric and Databricks. The mandate is to modernize the team's data architecture and deliver enterprise-grade analytical assets.
What you’ll do
- Design, build and optimize data pipelines using Power BI Premium, Microsoft Fabric and/or Databricks
- Develop scalable semantic models, star schemas and tabular models for enterprise analytics
- Build Power BI datasets, dashboards and reports aligned with business requirements
- Implement data quality controls, lineage documentation and metadata standards
- Collaborate with business partners, data engineers, risk analysts and architecture teams
- Support workspace governance, performance tuning and capacity optimization in Power BI Premium/Fabric
- Contribute to modernizing the team's next-generation data architecture
What they’re looking for
- 7+ years in data engineering, BI development or data/BI architecture roles
- 7 years of expert-level experience with Power BI, including DAX, M language and Premium capacities
- 7 years of expert-level SQL experience, including performance tuning and stored procedures
- 5 years of expert-level experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Data Factory, Lakehouse and KQL
- 3 years of experience with Databricks, including PySpark, Delta Lake and notebooks
- Expert-level experience with data lake file formats including Parquet, Delta, ORC and DuckDB
- Strong understanding of dimensional modeling, semantic modeling and data governance
- Experience with CI/CD for analytics, Git and DevOps pipelines
- Experience in enterprise environments with structured SDLC processes
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, business, finance or technology
Nice to have
- Experience in risk analytics, banking or credit risk domains
- Familiarity with PowerShell, Power Platform and Python
- Experience with Lakehouse and Medallion-based data structures
- Knowledge of security, privacy and compliance standards in financial institutions
- MS Fabric, Databricks or Power BI certification
