About the role
This is a Database Administrator III role at Guidewire, supporting customer-facing production database environments on AWS. It suits an experienced DBA skilled in Oracle RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server who enjoys production troubleshooting and being a trusted technical advisor. The role is hybrid, open across Guidewire's Toronto, Mississauga and Curitiba offices.
What you’ll do
- Serve as primary point of contact for database-related incidents and service requests
- Provide operational support and lifecycle management for Oracle RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL and SQL Server
- Perform performance tuning and root-cause troubleshooting for mission-critical databases
- Handle daily administration including setup, security hardening, monitoring and backup/restore
- Own Salesforce ticket queues for schema and security changes, coordinating change control via Jira
- Create and maintain technical documentation such as runbooks and troubleshooting guides
- Partner with development teams to resolve database bottlenecks and improve design
What they’re looking for
- Hands-on experience with at least two of: Oracle RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server
- Strong knowledge of AWS database services including RDS, Aurora and EC2-hosted databases
- Ability to troubleshoot complex SQL and database issues including locks and performance tuning
- Experience with Salesforce ticketing and Jira change management tools
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Comfort working in a hybrid, distributed environment across time zones
Nice to have
- Experience supporting databases in a SaaS or high-availability production environment
- Familiarity with automation and scripting (Python, Shell, PowerShell)
- Exposure to security frameworks such as NIST CSF
- Understanding of CI/CD practices for database changes
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or engineering
