About the role
This is an on-site full-time lead database engineering role in Bengaluru for a database engineer with at least six years of experience, including at least four years as a MongoDB DBA. You'll operate and improve large cloud database estates supporting MoEngage's real-time customer-engagement platform. The work covers reliability, scaling, performance, automation, maintenance, and an on-call rotation.
What you’ll do
- Own the reliability and availability of cloud MongoDB and ScyllaDB infrastructure.
- Improve database configuration, performance, scale, cost, and resilience.
- Maintain clusters through sharding, migrations, upgrades, and hardware or software changes.
- Monitor cluster health and identify performance bottlenecks.
- Automate routine database operations and build self-healing capabilities.
- Respond to database incidents as part of the on-call rotation.

- At least six years of hands-on SQL or NoSQL database experience.
- At least four years as a MongoDB DBA.
- Experience hosting and owning large MongoDB clusters in the cloud.
- Scripting and automation experience with Ansible and Terraform.
- Strong debugging, metrics analysis, and application-team communication skills.
Nice to have
- Experience managing ScyllaDB clusters.
- Experience with AWS ElastiCache.
- Experience with InfluxDB, Prometheus, or VictoriaMetrics.
