About the role
This is a senior backend engineering role at Optimal Dynamics, a logistics software startup backed by top-tier investors, open to remote workers across the United States. You'll design and scale cloud infrastructure, build internal tooling and CI/CD pipelines, and lead technical direction as the platform engineering team grows. The role combines systems architecture, developer experience, and mentorship across an experienced engineering organization.
What you’ll do
- Design, implement and scale core infrastructure to ensure reliability, performance and security across the platform
- Build and improve tooling, CI/CD pipelines and workflows that optimize developer productivity
- Champion security-by-design principles and implement controls that safeguard systems without slowing innovation
- Serve as a technical leader across teams, coaching engineers and driving alignment on platform strategy
- Partner with product and engineering leaders to balance speed, cost and resilience in architectural decisions
What they’re looking for
- 8+ years of hands-on infrastructure and platform engineering experience
- Strong expertise in Python 3, AWS and cloud-native system design
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures (Kafka or similar)
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Spacelift or CloudFormation)
- Proven experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes or ECS)
- Track record of improving developer experience through tooling and automation
- Experience leading security initiatives and knowledge of compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001)
- A history of mentoring engineers and shaping technical direction across teams
Nice to have
- Experience with transportation systems, TMS, or scientific and analytics applications
- Familiarity with modern data tools such as dbt and DuckDB
- Experience with monorepo developer workflows (Bazel, Buck or Pants)
