TypeScript Engineer - Codebase Q&A (Remote)
Skills
About the role
Mercor is seeking TypeScript engineers to create and validate reinforcement-learning training tasks that test how AI agents reason about real codebases. This remote contractor role pays $130 per approved task and suits experienced engineers comfortable navigating large TypeScript monorepos and writing precise technical questions. Work is performed remotely in Mercor Studio on a task basis.
What you’ll do
- Pick tasks from a pre-validated pool of TypeScript repositories with git commit pins, questions, rubrics, foils, and golden solutions
- Study repositories to understand subsystems, including relevant pull request and issue history
- Rewrite each task's question to challenge frontier coding agents while staying well-defined and fair to answer
- Adjust rubrics and foils to reward sound reasoning and reject plausible but wrong answers
- Run the full validation loop in Studio and repeat until every stage passes
- Document work in the task README, submit for expert review, and address reviewer feedback
What they’re looking for
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with substantial production TypeScript
- Ability to navigate a large unfamiliar TypeScript monorepo and explain runtime behavior beyond type declarations
- Fluency in advanced type systems, module resolution, bundlers, transpilers, and Node and browser runtimes
- Comfort reading compiler and plugin internals
- Experience with developer tooling, compilers, test frameworks, GraphQL servers, or state machines
- Precise written English since questions and rubrics become the training product
- Comfort with git at commit level, containerized environments, and command-line tooling
What’s on offer
- $130 per approved task
- Fully remote work from any location
- Contract engagement running in Mercor Studio
- Flexible scheduling within task-based framework
