Skills
About the role
This is a four-week, full-time contract for experienced data engineers based in the UK, working on an AI lab's model training and evaluation project rather than production engineering. It suits someone who currently builds and owns production data pipelines and can turn that daily practice into documented deliverables used to train and grade AI models. The engagement runs 14 September to 10 October 2026, 40 hours per week, coordinated on UK business hours.
What you’ll do
- Produce professional-grade deliverables such as schemas, pipeline documentation and data models
- Work alongside experts from other technical domains to align outputs with evaluation goals
- Structure your deliverables so they can become training tasks and grading rubrics
- Document your reasoning for what a complete, correct deliverable looks like
- Build or document pipeline components spanning ingestion, transformation and warehousing
- Review and refine artifacts daily during UK business hours
What they’re looking for
- Hands-on experience owning production data pipelines (Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer, Data Platform Engineer or similar title)
- Strong SQL and Python skills
- Deep familiarity with ETL/ELT, orchestration, streaming and data warehousing
- Practical experience with at least one tool from each of: Spark/Kafka, Airflow/dbt, Snowflake/BigQuery/Databricks, AWS/GCP/Azure
- Based in the United Kingdom with the right to work there
