About the role
This is an applied engineering role at Mercor's Deeptune team, remote from India with time overlap with New York. You'll build high-fidelity training environments where AI agents learn to complete real work, including tool APIs, computer-use systems, and task calibration. It suits a strong Python generalist comfortable across backend, frontend, data, and infrastructure who can own a project from spec through delivery.
What you’ll do
- Build environments end to end that reproduce the behavior of professional software.
- Build tool APIs, MCP servers, and containerized computer-use systems that connect environments to agents.
- Create and calibrate tasks, analyze rollouts, tune difficulty, and diagnose whether failures come from the model, task, or environment.
- Design realistic data: schemas, corpora, anonymization pipelines, and search/loading systems.
- Improve shared engineering infrastructure like automation, QA systems, and deployment tooling.
What they’re looking for
- Strong Python skills across backend, frontend, data, and infrastructure.
- Experience owning technically substantial projects, preferably from an early stage through production.
- Clear, structured communication and ability to explain complex systems.
- Technical depth: understanding why a system works and where it can fail.
- Good judgment about architecture, tradeoffs, testing, reliability, and scope.
- Comfort with changing requirements and unfamiliar problem spaces.
What’s on offer
- $80,000-$150,000 USD compensation.
- Mercor equity.
- Additional benefits.
