About the role
This is a senior backend engineering role based in India, working on real-time communications infrastructure for a WebRTC and voice platform. It suits an experienced backend engineer who enjoys owning distributed, low-latency systems end to end. The work covers authentication, routing, push notifications, DNS and diagnostics for production voice and communication services.
What you’ll do
- Design, develop, maintain and operate backend services for WebRTC and Voice SDK products
- Own services covering authentication, token management, proxying, push notifications, RTC DNS and diagnostic logging
- Improve reliability, scalability and architecture of customer-facing distributed services
- Enhance connection establishment, authentication flows, routing and session behavior
- Build observability through logs, metrics, dashboards and alerts, including push notification delivery via APNs and FCM
- Diagnose and resolve production issues across application, networking and infrastructure layers
- Strengthen deployment processes and production readiness
- Collaborate with mobile, JavaScript and infrastructure teams
What they’re looking for
- Strong professional experience building and operating backend services in production, particularly distributed or service-oriented architectures
- Hands-on experience with Elixir or Erlang, or strong backend expertise plus willingness to learn Elixir quickly
- Experience building or operating real-time, low-latency or connection-oriented systems
- Strong understanding of authentication, session lifecycles, reliability and failure recovery
- Practical experience with Kubernetes, containers and CI/CD
- Strong observability mindset with logging, metrics and alerting experience
Nice to have
- Experience with WebRTC, VoIP, voice/video communications or WebSockets
- Familiarity with push notification infrastructure such as APNs or FCM
- Familiarity with DNS, edge routing, service discovery or globally distributed systems
- Experience developing diagnostic or observability tools, or backend services supporting mobile/JavaScript SDKs
