About the role
This is a full-time database administrator role supporting Guidewire's cloud insurance platform across AWS production environments, based in Toronto. It suits a hands-on DBA experienced with at least two of Oracle, PostgreSQL and SQL Server who wants to own incident response and performance tuning. The role sits within platform support, working hybrid alongside application and infrastructure teams.
What you’ll do
- Serve as primary point of contact for database-related incidents and service requests
- Resolve database incidents against service-level and satisfaction targets
- Support Oracle RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL and SQL Server across multi-AZ AWS environments
- Perform performance tuning and root-cause troubleshooting for mission-critical databases
- Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to reduce incident resolution time
- Assist with database setup, configuration, security hardening, monitoring and backups
- Own Salesforce ticket queues for schema and security changes and non-production refreshes
- Coordinate change control through Jira for auditable deployments
- Create and maintain runbooks and troubleshooting guides
- Lead incident investigations and drive automation to reduce recurring issues
What they’re looking for
- Hands-on experience administering at least two of Oracle, Aurora PostgreSQL and SQL Server in production
- Strong knowledge of AWS database services including RDS, Aurora and EC2-hosted databases
- Ability to troubleshoot complex SQL issues including locks, deadlocks and slow queries
- Experience with Salesforce and Jira for ticketing and change management
- Strong documentation discipline and communication skills
- Comfort working hybrid and coordinating across time zones
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or equivalent practical experience
Nice to have
- Experience supporting databases in SaaS or high-availability production environments, especially FinTech/InsurTech
- Familiarity with Python, Shell or PowerShell for automation
- Exposure to security and compliance practices such as encryption and access controls, aligned with NIST CSF
- Understanding of CI/CD and database integration into release pipelines
