Data Analyst, Internal Audit
Skills
About the role
This is a data analyst role within GiveDirectly's Internal Audit function, focused on detecting and reducing fraud risk across the organization's cash-transfer programs. It suits someone who can move between deep SQL/Python analysis and clear storytelling to non-technical stakeholders, and it is fully remote with an East Africa timezone overlap requirement. GiveDirectly delivers direct cash transfers to people living in poverty across 15 countries, and this role helps protect that cash from fraud.
What you’ll do
- Mine enrollment, payment, survey, and field-operations data to spot fraud patterns and typologies
- Design, build, and maintain recurring fraud-risk indicators with central data and control owners
- Identify and help resolve data quality issues in Internal Audit's data
- Package findings into briefs and presentations for country teams and leadership
- Support fraud investigations with data pulls, exposure quantification, and reproducible analysis
- Partner with Product and Central Data teams on fraud-detection tooling and requirements
- Back-test risk indicators against investigated cases and refine them over time
What they’re looking for
- 4+ years of experience in data analysis, audit, risk, or a related analytical role
- Strong SQL skills and comfort with large, messy operational datasets (Salesforce, payments, survey data)
- Ability to turn ambiguous analysis into a clear, defensible narrative for non-technical stakeholders
- Sound judgment distinguishing real signal from noise, communicated transparently
- High integrity and discretion handling sensitive staff, recipient, and investigation data
- Willingness to overlap at least 3 hours with an East Africa timezone
Nice to have
- Experience in internal audit, fraud/forensics, or nonprofit/development work
- Python experience for reproducible analysis, automation, record linkage, or anomaly investigation
- Familiarity with analytical notebooks, version control, and reproducible documentation
- Experience with Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or R
- Interest in working cross-functionally with product and engineering teams
What’s on offer
- US base salary $107,070 plus 10% target bonus and $21,393 annual benefits stipend
- UK base salary £70,250 plus 10% target bonus and £2,760 annual benefits stipend
- Kenya base salary $72,550 plus 10% target bonus
- Fully remote role, with salary benchmarked for other countries during hiring
- Flexible paid time off and health benefits that vary by country
- Allowances for desk set-up and learning and development
