About the role
This is an internal AI engineering role at GitLab, building AI-powered tools and agentic workflows for Sales, Marketing and Customer Support, fully remote from Bangalore. It suits an experienced software engineer who wants to evaluate business bottlenecks first and act as GitLab's internal 'Customer Zero' for its own AI tools. The role sits within GitLab's Enterprise Technology & AI team, reporting to the Director, Enterprise AI.
What you’ll do
- Diagnose operational bottlenecks across Sales, Marketing and Support and confirm whether AI is the right solution
- Own internal AI initiatives end-to-end from discovery through deployment and performance tracking
- Build and ship functional prototypes and production tools to reduce workflow cycle times
- Integrate foundation models and agents into enterprise platforms via REST APIs and GraphQL
- Deploy GitLab Duo Agent Platform internally and feed usability data back to product teams
- Implement AI security safeguards including prompt injection defenses and access controls
- Define and track success metrics combining business value and adoption
What they’re looking for
- Proven software engineering proficiency in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript or a related language
- Solid understanding of REST APIs, GraphQL and enterprise integration patterns
- Practical experience with foundation models and agentic architectures such as tool calling and orchestration
- Deep knowledge of prompt engineering and context window management
- Working understanding of enterprise business applications and data models such as CRM and support desks
- Demonstrated AI safety awareness around guardrails and data privacy
Nice to have
- Familiarity with the GitLab platform and advanced CI/CD pipelines
- Background in technical consulting, solutions engineering or forward-deployed roles
- Familiarity with Theory of Constraints and value stream mapping
- Experience with low-code/no-code platforms such as Workato, n8n or Make
- Prior experience in high-growth startups or all-remote async teams
