About the role
This is a senior data engineering role at Flinks, an embedded finance platform, open to remote candidates across Canada. You'll build and own the data and ML platform that turns models into production services, working across the warehouse, orchestration and model-serving layers. The role suits someone who wants greenfield ownership of data infrastructure rather than inheriting an existing setup.
What you’ll do
- Own and evolve the BigQuery warehouse, dbt transformation layers, and Airflow/Cloud Composer orchestration
- Build and operate ML training pipelines on Kubeflow/Vertex AI and model serving via FastAPI behind Vertex endpoints
- Take operational ownership of model-serving infrastructure and reliability
- Harden and standardize core data models, fixing data-quality issues and establishing source-of-truth feeds
- Establish data governance and observability across the platform
- Standardize data engineering patterns and tooling across product lines
- Partner with data science, backend and product teams on producer-to-consumer data contracts
What they’re looking for
- 5+ years of hands-on data engineering experience building production data platforms in the cloud
- Strong ETL/ELT, data modeling, schema design, orchestration and warehouse optimization skills
- Expert SQL and strong Python
- Experience with cloud-native data ecosystems, event-driven architecture and distributed processing
- Demonstrated ownership of production systems including monitoring, reliability and incident response
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
Nice to have
- Experience with BigQuery, dbt or Airflow specifically
- Exposure to machine learning workflows, feature pipelines or MLOps environments
