About the role
This is a remote GCP data engineering role at Equinix, building and maintaining the company's data lake platform and analytics tooling. It suits a data engineer with hands-on Google Cloud experience who wants to design and run scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and warehouse solutions end to end. The team is part of Equinix's central Data Team, supporting business intelligence and reporting use cases across the company.
What you’ll do
- Design, develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Cloud Dataflow, Cloud Composer, Dataform/dbt and Cloud Functions
- Build real-time streaming pipelines using Cloud Pub/Sub, Kafka and Dataflow
- Implement automated data quality checks and monitoring across data workflows
- Architect data lake and warehouse solutions using Dataproc, BigQuery, Cloud Storage and Cloud SQL
- Design data models, partitioning strategies and clustering for analytical workloads
- Manage data lifecycle policies including archival and retention
- Build and optimize BigQuery datasets for analytics and reporting
- Implement change data capture solutions for real-time synchronization
- Integrate data from databases, APIs, SaaS applications and file systems
- Set up monitoring and alerting using Cloud Monitoring and Cloud Logging
What they’re looking for
- 2+ years hands-on experience with BigQuery, Cloud Dataflow, Cloud Composer, Cloud Storage, Cloud Pub/Sub, Dataform/dbt and Cloud Functions
- Proficiency in Python or Java and SQL, plus experience with Spark/Beam
- Strong understanding of Apache Beam, Apache Airflow and distributed computing
- Experience with RDBMS (Cloud SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (Bigtable, Firestore) databases
- Experience with Terraform, Cloud Deployment Manager or similar infrastructure-as-code tools
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or related field
- 2+ years of experience in data engineering or related roles
- 2+ years of specific experience with Google Cloud Platform
- Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines
- Knowledge of data modeling techniques and dimensional modeling
Nice to have
- Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer certification
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes/GKE
- Experience with data governance and compliance frameworks such as GDPR, HIPAA or SOX
- Familiarity with Looker, Tableau or Power BI
- Experience with streaming technologies beyond GCP such as Kafka or Spark Streaming
