About the role
This is a hybrid Senior Software Engineer role in Toronto for an engineer who can take products from discovery through delivery and measure their business impact. You will work directly with stakeholders, shape product and user experience decisions, and build scalable software with AI-assisted engineering tools. Clutch builds online used-car retail products and expects senior engineers to own problems and outcomes end to end.
What you’ll do
- Own products from problem discovery through launch and impact measurement.
- Work with stakeholders to understand problems and design suitable solutions and user experiences.
- Build scalable software using sound engineering practices and AI-powered development tools.
- Influence product direction, architecture, workflows and experience design.
- Improve performance and solve application bottlenecks.
- Design APIs, relational schemas and long-term system architecture.
- Use AI tools to prototype, accelerate development and improve code quality.
- Evaluate new engineering tools and practices.
- Balance delivery speed, quality and maintainability.
- Participate in design discussions, code reviews and knowledge sharing.
- Improve systems, tools and the developer experience.

- At least four years of professional software engineering experience.
- Experience shipping production software used by real customers.
- Frontend, backend or full-stack application experience.
- Experience with a modern programming language such as TypeScript, Python, Go, Java, C#, Rust or Ruby.
- Experience designing scalable systems, improving performance and solving difficult technical problems.
- Experience with relational databases, API design and a cloud platform such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Practical use of AI to explore ideas, prototype and improve engineering workflows.
- Comfort working directly with stakeholders and making decisions under ambiguity.
- Clear communication and effective collaboration.
- Interest in both business outcomes and technical quality.
- Curiosity and a willingness to continue learning.
