About the role
This is an engineering management role for someone with substantial backend and payments experience, based in India. You'll lead the team building payment orchestration, ledger, reconciliation, onboarding, and bulk-processing systems while coordinating with US-based colleagues. The role combines technical direction, delivery ownership, reliability, financial correctness, and people management.
What you’ll do
- Lead planning, prioritization, delivery, and process improvement for the engineering team.
- Set architecture and technical direction for payment, ledger, reconciliation, and financial-institution integration systems.
- Work with Product, Compliance, Risk, and Solutions Engineering on payments roadmaps.
- Coordinate delivery across teams in India and the United States.
- Maintain reliability, security, operational readiness, incident response, and on-call practices.
- Recruit, coach, develop, and performance-manage engineers.
- Align engineering work with geographic expansion, transaction growth, customer experience, and market launches.
What they’re looking for
- At least 7 years of software engineering experience and at least 2 years managing or formally leading engineering teams.
- Experience operating distributed, highly available backend systems in production.
- Experience with payments, banking, ledgers, reconciliation, settlement, or related financial systems.
- Strong technical leadership across architecture reviews, system design, trade-offs, and code guidance.
- Proficiency in Java, Go, Kotlin, or another backend language.
- Experience managing senior individual contributors and supporting their development.
- Strong collaboration skills with product, compliance, risk, and financial partners.
- Regular working-hour overlap with US-based teams.
Nice to have
- Experience with cross-border payments, correspondent banking, stablecoins, blockchain settlement, banks, or payment service providers.
- Familiarity with KYC, KYB, Travel Rule, transaction monitoring, and regulated payments.
