About the role
Alpaca is hiring a senior software engineer for a full-time remote role available worldwide. The role is for an experienced backend engineer who can develop the ledger that records account activity and transactional data for brokerage infrastructure. You’ll deliver and operate foundational services while working with finance, operations, product, and engineering teams. The position emphasizes scalable design, technical judgment, and end-to-end feature ownership.
What you’ll do
- Develop and maintain core brokerage-platform services.
- Build the ledger used as the authoritative record for transactions and account activity.
- Deliver features from design through deployment.
- Partner with finance, operations, product, and engineering stakeholders.
- Improve reliability, stability, and maintainability across systems.
What they’re looking for
- At least 5 years building systems at scale.
- Strong programming ability, preferably in Go.
- Experience with protobuf or other IDLs, gRPC or similar RPC frameworks, GCP, and PostgreSQL.
- Ability to identify, debug, and prevent production issues.
- Experience designing and building scalable systems.
- Ability to align technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Financial-services or accounting experience.
- Distributed systems, databases, event-driven systems, or messaging-broker experience.
