About the role
This is a remote Staff Engineer role for an experienced distributed-systems engineer working across Europe and globally on money, risk, and payment ancillary systems. You will provide technical leadership across fraud, scam prevention, financial operations, reconciliation, and chargebacks. The role requires hands-on architecture and production ownership for high-throughput, financially sensitive services.
What you’ll do
- Set architecture across the money, risk, fraud, scams, reconciliation, and chargeback domains.
- Design fast transaction-risk and fraud decisioning systems.
- Build idempotent money movement and reconciliation services with auditable ledgers.
- Create platforms for scam prevention and the full dispute lifecycle.
- Design compliant, highly available, multi-tenant systems.
- Establish automated observability and production ownership for services.
- Work with Product, Data and ML, Compliance, and engineering leaders.
- Mentor engineers and deliver complex cross-team initiatives.

- At least eight years of software engineering experience.
- Deep Go or Kotlin expertise and broad software-engineering capability.
- Experience architecting high-throughput, low-latency, event-driven distributed systems.
- Background in financial or risk-critical systems.
- Strong AWS and cloud-native experience.
- Good automated testing practices across unit, integration, and end-to-end levels.
- Experience leading technical direction and mentoring engineers.
- Knowledge of Agile, DevSecOps, CI/CD, and DORA metrics.
- Advanced English communication skills.
Nice to have
- Fraud, risk scoring, ML pipelines, double-entry ledgers, reconciliation, chargebacks, or APP-scam prevention experience.
- Kafka, exactly-once processing, or event sourcing experience.
- Global payments or fintech experience.
- Performance optimization and static-analysis tooling experience.
- Spanish proficiency.
- Open-source work, technical writing, or multi-team engineering standards experience.
