About the role
This is a senior remote software engineering role at Web Design Awards, working on the platform behind a curated index of award-winning websites. The engineer will build features spanning the web application, judging tools and marketplace features for hiring and agencies. What you’ll do
- Design, build and ship features across the web application, from database to UI
- Own parts of the codebase including architecture decisions and technical tradeoffs
- Collaborate with product and design to translate requirements into reliable systems
- Review code and mentor other engineers
- Diagnose and resolve performance, scalability and reliability issues in production
- Participate in technical planning and help set engineering best practices

- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong command of at least one modern backend language and one modern frontend framework
- Track record of owning features end-to-end from design through deployment and monitoring
- Solid understanding of relational databases, APIs and web application architecture
- Experience working in a fast-moving, small-team environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for distributed teams
Nice to have
- Experience with performance optimization and web accessibility standards
- Familiarity with SEO-sensitive, content-heavy or marketplace-style web products
- Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading small technical initiatives
