About the role
This is a staff-level, hybrid AI engineering role at RBC in Toronto, building reusable agent architecture, evaluation tooling and analytics for AI teams across the bank. It suits an engineer with dual competency in applied AI/agentic engineering and full-stack development who can take a feature from data contract to shipped UI. The role sits within RBC's AI Group, designing agent identity, context abstraction and a standardized evaluation framework for agent reliability.

- Build and orchestrate multi-step agentic workflows with tool integrations and evaluation harnesses
- Build full-stack backend services, APIs and executive-facing dashboards to surface AI-derived signals
- Own data pipelines feeding these applications, partnering with Data Engineering on data contracts
- Document design decisions, prompt/rubric changes and evaluation results for auditability
What they’re looking for
- Staff-level experience spanning applied AI/agentic engineering and full-stack software development
- Track record delivering enterprise-grade AI platforms with hands-on engineering at a complex level
- 7+ years building and shipping production web applications end-to-end, backend plus a modern frontend framework
- Comfort owning ambiguous, high-judgment problems such as defining classification accuracy thresholds
- Experience shipping production systems that consume LLM outputs as a decision signal
- Ability to work credibly with Governance/Compliance and Security on privacy-sensitive AI decisions
Nice to have
- Experience with LangChain, LlamaIndex or similar orchestration/evaluation tooling
- Experience with vector databases or RAG pipelines (Pinecone, pgvector, Chroma)
- Terraform or infrastructure-as-code exposure
- Experience with Apache Airflow/Prefect and Snowflake for data pipelines
