About the role
This is a senior data engineering role on Roblox's Data Engineering team, based in San Mateo, California. It suits an experienced engineer who wants to define data ontology and build analytics infrastructure at large scale, while also mentoring a growing team. The role reports to the Data Engineering Manager and works closely with Data Science, Experimentation, ML, and Data Infrastructure teams.
What you’ll do
- Partner with Data Science, Product, and Engineering to define the data ontology across Roblox
- Lead and mentor a growing team of data engineers
- Design, build, and maintain batch and streaming pipelines for core data sets
- Develop scalable frameworks and tooling to automate analytics workflows
- Establish standard methodologies for data operations and lifecycle management
What they’re looking for
- 8+ years building scalable ETL pipelines with tools like Airflow, Dagster, Luigi, or Cloud Composer
- Deep expertise in SQL, PySpark, or Scala
- 3+ years leading data engineering work directly with business or data science partners
- Experience building and maintaining multi-terabyte data sets, including skew mitigation and sampling strategies
- Experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Experience building or enhancing ETL orchestration tools or frameworks
- Comfort with standard GitOps workflows (branching, PRs, CI/CD)
