About the role
This is a principal engineering role at NielsenIQ owning technical leadership and production reliability for the CPS DataValidation platform behind the OmniShopper and Homescan products. It suits a senior technical leader comfortable owning mission-critical systems and coordinating across engineering, data science and product teams, based in Toronto on a hybrid schedule. The role spans a hybrid on-premise and Azure ecosystem and works closely with teams primarily in US Eastern time.
What you’ll do
- Own the health, reliability, performance and scalability of the DataValidation platform
- Serve as the primary escalation point for production incidents
- Lead incident management, root cause analysis and post-incident remediation
- Define and execute technical strategy and roadmap for the platform
- Review system designs across on-premise and Azure-based systems
- Act as engineering lead for strategic OmniShopper initiatives
- Translate business requirements into technical solutions and manage technical risk
What they’re looking for
- 10+ years of software engineering experience
- 5+ years in Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Architect or equivalent leadership roles
- Experience owning mission-critical production systems
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale data platforms
- Hands-on experience with Python, Oracle Database, Linux, SQL performance tuning
- Experience with Azure Data Services, PySpark, Parquet datasets, ETL frameworks
- Strong stakeholder management and cross-team communication skills
Nice to have
- Retail measurement, consumer panel or syndicated data domain experience
- Experience with OmniShopper, Homescan or similar consumer analytics platforms
- Experience working with Data Science and advanced analytics teams
- Knowledge of modern data quality, governance and observability frameworks
