About the role
Netflix is hiring a senior distributed-systems engineer to build internal platforms for content and business operations across the United States. The role suits an experienced backend engineer who can lead technical decisions, operate resilient services, and collaborate across product and engineering groups. Work supports systems used throughout the lifecycle of developing, producing, promoting, and distributing Netflix content.
What you’ll do
- Build and run scalable, highly available distributed infrastructure.
- Set technical direction and make architecture decisions for engineering initiatives.
- Improve developer tooling, observability, operational practices, and code quality.
- Partner with engineers, product managers, and technical program managers.
- Join on-call coverage and lead incident reviews.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to technical communities.

- At least 5 years building complex distributed systems.
- Recent proficiency in Java, C#, or another object-oriented language.
- Knowledge of object-oriented design, concurrency, multithreading, performance tuning, and observability.
- Experience designing and operating fault-tolerant, high-availability services.
- Ability to communicate complex technical decisions to varied stakeholders.
Nice to have
- A platform or infrastructure product mindset.
- Experience with gRPC or GraphQL API design.
- Experience with Kafka, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, Memcached, or AWS.
- Familiarity with library development, dependency injection, or Spring Boot.
- Experience evaluating AI-assisted development tools.
