About the role
This is an Engineering Manager role at Ledgebrook, an Excess & Surplus insurance company, leading a full stack engineering team. It suits an experienced engineering leader who combines technical depth with people leadership, coaching engineers and shaping architecture across underwriting, policy and data systems. The role is fully remote, open to candidates in the USA or Canada, reporting to the Director of Engineering.
What you’ll do
- Lead and mentor a team of full stack engineers
- Drive agile execution including standups, sprint planning and retros
- Partner with product managers to clarify requirements and define milestones
- Conduct code reviews, guide architecture decisions and unblock technical challenges
- Own the delivery pipeline including code quality, testing and CI/CD
- Shape system architecture across Node.js, TypeScript, Python and AWS
- Collaborate with AI/ML engineers to integrate models into internal products
- Recruit, onboard and grow the engineering team
What they’re looking for
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years leading teams or technical projects
- Strong full stack background in Python, TypeScript, Node.js, React, FastAPI or similar
- Experience managing agile development processes
- Experience designing and delivering scalable systems in the cloud, AWS preferred
- Experience partnering with product on ambiguous problems
- Proven ability to recruit, mentor and develop engineers
- Strong sense of ownership from architecture through delivery
Nice to have
- Prior startup or high-growth experience
- CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline or Jenkins
- Containerization and orchestration with Docker, ECS or Kubernetes
- Exposure to AI/ML systems or LLM-driven workflows
- Domain experience in insurance, fintech or other regulated industries
- Experience scaling teams and systems from seed to growth stage
