About the role
Coinbase is hiring a Software Engineer in Developer Infrastructure for a fully remote position with quarterly in-person 'surges'. You will design and operate foundational platform services — CI and build systems, deployment orchestration, and test infrastructure — used by all Coinbase engineers.
What you’ll do
- Design, build, and operate core developer-infrastructure services spanning CI, build systems, deployment orchestration, and test infrastructure
- Drive measurable improvements to build wall time, deploy speed and safety, and test feedback time and flakiness
- Own services end to end including SLOs, observability, and on-call rotations
- Partner closely with engineering teams across Coinbase to turn pain points into platform improvements
- Lead technical design for ambitious, cross-cutting projects through to production
What they’re looking for
- Background in backend software engineering and data systems
- Proficiency in Python, Go, or Java for backend development
- Experience with data infrastructure patterns including scale-out architectures, caching, and storage systems
- Hands-on experience with SQL, Airflow, Spark, Kafka, or similar frameworks
- Experience with data security, access control, cataloging, or data observability
Nice to have
- Ability to utilize generative AI responsibly while maintaining human oversight
