About the role
This is a six-week freelance Data Platform Engineer contract for an experienced engineer helping bring a live clinical-trial data platform to production quality. You will audit and repair a Supabase/PostgreSQL system, strengthen ingestion and reconciliation, and build reliable data delivery through APIs and exports. The role is remote, requires five or more years of experience, and calls for substantial autonomy in production database and pipeline work.
What you’ll do
- Review the live database, functions, ingestion processes, and data integrity.
- Trace failures across source collection, transformation, enrichment, storage, and delivery.
- Repair missing writes, incorrect transformations, filters, and record-count mismatches.
- Move local scrapers and ingestion jobs to unattended hosted infrastructure.
- Build retry-safe, observable, idempotent ingestion workflows.
- Add reconciliation, validation, monitoring, and safe backfill processes.
- Put schemas and database functions under version control.
- Introduce migrations, staging and production separation, and recovery procedures.
- Improve PostgreSQL performance and database safety controls.
- Maintain object-storage exports and a customer-facing REST API.
