About the role
This is a senior backend/distributed systems engineering role on Twilio's Segment team, open to candidates in select India states. The engineer will help build and scale systems processing hundreds of thousands of data points per second for data ingestion and routing. It suits an engineer with 5-7 years of production experience in Go, Java or Python who wants to work on high-scale data pipelines.
What you’ll do
- Design and deliver high-scale routing experiences for Twilio Segment's data pipelines
- Operate always-available, complex distributed systems in cloud environments
- Collaborate cross-functionally with design, product and engineering to define solutions
- Communicate technical decisions and trade-offs clearly
- Mentor junior engineers
- Participate in an on-call rotation for managed services
- Troubleshoot and improve system reliability
What they’re looking for
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
- Hands-on experience with high-scale messaging/streaming systems processing several thousand events per second
- 5-7 years writing production-grade code in a modern programming language
- Proficiency in Go, Java, Python or similar object-oriented languages
- Experience operating large-scale distributed systems on cloud infrastructure
- Experience shipping services following CI/CD practices
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with container orchestration frameworks such as Kubernetes, EKS or ECS
- Technical depth in distributed systems, high-scale ingestion and cloud-native architecture
- Proficiency with datastores, distributed caching and container technologies
- Experience with modern CI/CD pipelines and observability tools such as Datadog, Grafana or Prometheus
- Familiarity with AI/ML technologies
- Experience working in a geographically distributed team
