About the role
This is a full-time remote Machine Learning Engineer position for someone based in North Carolina and authorized to work permanently in the United States. You will develop production computer-vision systems and phenomics data pipelines for agricultural research and seed-breeding work. The role combines model development, data engineering, cloud deployment, and collaboration with scientific and product teams.
What you’ll do
- Develop and deploy computer-vision models for imagery and sensor data.
- Build scalable pipelines for image intake, processing, trait extraction, quality control, and downstream delivery.
- Translate breeding and research needs into machine-learning solutions.
- Productionize research code using MLOps, containers, CI/CD, and cloud services.
- Build and operate image preprocessing and quality-control workflows.
- Contribute to mobile-first AI products for image capture and real-time measurements.

- A master's or doctoral degree in a relevant technical field.
- At least 5 years in machine learning engineering or data science, including 4 years in applied computer vision.
- Deep computer-vision and deep-learning expertise.
- Strong Python and SQL engineering practices.
- Experience with MLOps, Docker, CI/CD, and a major cloud platform.
- Permanent U.S. work authorization without current or future sponsorship.
Nice to have
- Background in remote sensing, geospatial analysis, or image processing.
- Experience with multimodal imagery, LiDAR, hyperspectral data, or 3D point clouds.
- Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, scikit-learn, XGBoost, MLflow, or Weights & Biases.
