About the role
This is a full-time remote Staff Software Engineer role for a US-based engineer with roughly eight or more years of related experience. You’ll own architecture for a self-hosted endpoint-protection platform deployed in customer-controlled enterprise, government, regulated, and potentially air-gapped environments. The role spans backend teams and sets technical direction for availability, scale, resilience, capacity, performance, and operational behavior. You’ll also lead multi-team technical initiatives and mentor senior and staff engineers.
What you’ll do
- Own architecture across backend services, data pipelines, control logic, and customer deployment topology.
- Set resilience standards for clustering, replication, failover, consensus, leader election, and degradation behavior.
- Define scale and capacity approaches for varied customer hardware environments.
- Establish performance, observability, and operations practices for restricted and air-gapped deployments.
- Adapt cloud-native capabilities for customer-hosted architecture.
- Set coding patterns and standards across backend teams.
- Lead cross-team initiatives, influence roadmaps, mentor peers, and review technical work.

- Deep Go or Python expertise.
- Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, Docker, and Linux.
- Extensive experience delivering on-premises, self-hosted, or customer-deployed software.
- Experience with appliance, OVA, bare-metal, or containerized deployment lifecycle.
- Experience with clustering, sharding, partitioning, load balancing, and capacity planning.
- Ability to turn ambiguous, complex needs into durable multi-team designs.
- Strong communication, roadmap influence, technical leadership, and mentoring ability.

- Experience assessing technology trade-offs and infrastructure costs in customer-controlled or air-gapped environments.
