About the role
This is a full-stack staff-level software engineering role at Samsara, open to candidates based in Canada and remote within the country. It suits an experienced engineer who wants to own new, ambiguous product areas end to end rather than maintain existing systems. Samsara builds a connected-operations platform processing IoT sensor and camera data for industries like transportation, construction and manufacturing.
What you’ll do
- Take ownership of technically complex, mission-critical problem areas
- Define and drive technical strategy for new products and platform capabilities
- Design and ship full-stack features across backend, frontend and potentially mobile
- Partner with product, design and customer-facing teams on ambiguous problems
- Build and scale systems behind AI-driven products, including data ingestion and APIs
- Mentor other engineers through code and design reviews
What they’re looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- 8+ years of experience in software design and development, including production systems at scale
- Strong full-stack fundamentals across backend, APIs and frontend
- Experience leading cross-team or cross-org projects from inception through rollout
- Experience building AI-powered or data-driven products
- Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
Nice to have
- Experience shipping AI-powered features in production (LLM products, agentic workflows, recommendation systems)
- Comfort with AI-augmented development tools such as Cursor
- Background with operational data like telematics, sensor data, work orders or inspections
- Track record of mentoring senior engineers and influencing engineering culture
- Side projects, open-source contributions or other signals of outside curiosity
