About the role
This is a senior, onsite contract data scientist role with the Ontario government, working on a digital modernization initiative for archaeology and heritage program data. It suits an experienced data analyst or scientist based in Ontario who is comfortable with both statistical/ML work and geospatial analysis, five days a week in downtown Toronto. The contract runs from late October 2026 through early October 2027.
What you’ll do
- Analyze complex datasets to build predictive models and generate business-facing insights.
- Apply statistical methods, machine learning, and programming to interpret data.
- Research and develop new statistical models and information studies.
- Conduct initial analyses to characterize data and surface patterns or trends.
What they’re looking for
- Must be able to work five days onsite per week in Toronto.
- Knowledge of data analytics including relational databases, geospatial analysis, and spatial data management.
- Proficiency with tools such as Power BI, Tableau, R Shiny, or ArcGIS.
- Ability to analyze and interpret both spatial and non-spatial datasets for planning and compliance decisions.
- Ability to develop predictive models, analytical frameworks, and business intelligence solutions.
- Experience identifying business problems addressable through data analysis and sourcing relevant datasets.
- Proficiency with data mining, statistics, and programming languages such as Python or R.
- Experience with Git and database management systems.
- Project management experience.
Nice to have
- An advanced degree in social science or statistics.
- A certification such as IBM's Data Science Professional Certificate or a Google Data Engineer certification.
