About the role
This is a staff-level, individual-contributor role owning the data warehouse platform end-to-end at a healthcare technology company, and it's fully remote. It suits an experienced data infrastructure engineer who wants broad architectural scope: CDC pipelines, the data lake, the query layer, transformation, and analytics tooling all fall under one person. The team runs Debezium for change data capture, StarRocks as the query and serving engine, and dbt for transformation.
What you’ll do
- Own the data warehouse platform end-to-end, from CDC through analytics-facing tooling.
- Design and operate CDC pipelines with Debezium and a streaming backbone such as Kafka or Redpanda.
- Architect the data lake on object storage using an open table format like Iceberg, Delta Lake, or Hudi.
- Run and scale StarRocks or a similar MPP/lakehouse engine as the serving layer.
- Build out the dbt transformation layer, including modeling standards, tests, and a semantic layer.
- Stand up orchestration and the CI/CD, observability, and data-quality tooling around it.
- Partner with security and compliance on PHI/PII handling, access controls, and auditability.
- Set schema and ingestion conventions that let other teams self-serve on the platform.
What they’re looking for
- 6+ years of software engineering experience, with significant time building or operating data platforms at scale.
- Hands-on experience across CDC, streaming, open table formats, and an MPP or lakehouse query engine, plus dbt.
- Fluency in SQL, schema design, and reasoning about cost and latency trade-offs on large datasets.
- Experience running production data infrastructure, including on-call and incident response.
Nice to have
- Direct production experience with Debezium, StarRocks, and dbt specifically.
- Experience building semantic layers or data catalogs and lineage tooling.
- Experience with HIPAA-regulated data, including de-identification and access governance.
- Experience supporting AI/ML workloads such as feature stores or embedding pipelines.
- Multi-cloud experience with infrastructure-as-code and Kubernetes.
