About the role
Wabtec is hiring a remote senior automation engineer in the United States to lead advanced-manufacturing automation work across its manufacturing network. This role suits an engineer with deep welding, machining, fabrication, robotics, and controls experience who can take capital projects from concept through launch. You’ll develop repeatable automation capabilities while partnering with operations, engineering, quality, IT, OT, safety, and external suppliers.
What you’ll do
- Lead automation initiatives from initial concept through production launch.
- Identify manufacturing processes that could benefit from automation.
- Prepare technical concepts, capital estimates, and return-on-investment cases.
- Own enterprise expertise for welding and joining automation.
- Create automation standards, specifications, and preferred-technology guidance.
- Support vendor selection, design reviews, factory and site acceptance testing, commissioning, and startup.
- Improve deployed automation systems and replicate successful approaches across sites.
- Mentor site engineering resources and assess emerging automation technologies.
What they’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, mechatronics, automation or controls, robotics engineering, or a related field.
- At least 7 years in industrial automation, manufacturing engineering, robotics, controls, or advanced manufacturing.
- Strong experience in welding automation, robotic welding, or automated machining and fabrication.
- Experience leading substantial automation and capital projects.
- Knowledge of robotics, controls, machine integration, manufacturing processes, and safety.
- Ability to travel as needed to support manufacturing sites.
Nice to have
- Experience with FANUC, ABB, KUKA, or Yaskawa or Motoman robots.
- PLC, HMI, industrial-networking, machine-vision, MES, SCADA, OEE, or data-collection experience.
- Certified welding experience.
- Lean Green Belt certification.
