About the role

This is a data engineering role at Fasken, a large law firm, focused on building and maintaining the data warehouses and lakes that power its analytics and reporting. It suits someone with hands-on Microsoft Fabric and SQL/Python experience who also cares about data governance. The team works largely remotely, with internal clients spread across time zones.

What you’ll do

  • Design, build and maintain data warehouses and lakes in Microsoft Fabric
  • Develop and support ETL/ELT pipelines, data flows and ingestion processes
  • Use Python and SQL notebooks to transform, validate and move data
  • Build and update semantic models for reporting and analytics
  • Monitor daily data loads and maintain an operational health checklist
  • Build Power BI dashboards, reports and alerts to track data movement, quality and performance
  • Monitor and optimize cloud resource usage for cost and performance
  • Resolve data issues and support tickets
  • Configure secure access using Microsoft Entra ID groups and role-based controls
  • Lead data governance initiatives including field standardization and data cleanup
  • Document processes and standard operating procedures
  • Use GitHub and DevOps practices for version control and deployment

What they’re looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (math, economics, statistics, engineering, computer science) or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of experience in data engineering or a similar role
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Azure data platforms (Azure services, Microsoft Fabric, SQL Server)
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python for data transformation and pipeline development
  • Experience building and maintaining data warehouses/lakes and pipelines
  • Working knowledge of Power BI and semantic modeling
  • Experience with data governance, access control and compliance requirements
  • Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills
  • Microsoft certification required, or must be obtained within a year
  • Ability to work in a mostly remote environment across time zones

Nice to have

  • Experience with other cloud data platforms such as AWS or Snowflake
  • Familiarity with the Elite 3E ERP system
