About the role
This is a senior Power BI developer contract supporting a bank's Capital Measurement Reporting modernization program in Toronto. It suits an experienced BI developer who wants to build regulator-facing reporting rather than general dashboards. The work runs hybrid out of Toronto over an estimated six-month term. You'll partner with Risk, Finance, Regulatory Reporting, and Data Engineering teams to modernize how capital and risk metrics get reported.
What you’ll do
- Design and build Power BI dashboards covering Capital Measurement, RWA, risk exposure, and finance metrics.
- Translate capital and risk data into auditable, business-friendly visualizations for senior management and regulators.
- Build optimized Power BI semantic models aligned to modern cloud data platforms.
- Develop and optimize DAX measures for capital calculations, aggregations, and trend comparisons.
- Use Power Query (M) and SQL to support ETL and data transformation.
- Work with upstream data engineering teams to ensure reconciled, timely data feeds.
- Manage Power BI Service workspaces, datasets, refresh schedules, and access controls.
- Implement version control and release management for BI assets.
- Use Power Automate to streamline reporting workflows and validation.
- Act as the Power BI subject matter expert and mentor junior BI developers.

- Expert-level Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service experience.
- Advanced DAX and Power Query (M code).
- Advanced SQL.
- Enterprise data modeling (fact/dimension, star schema).
- ETL concepts and performance optimization.
- Experience producing audit-ready documentation.
- Power Automate and general Power Platform experience.
- Version control experience (Git, Azure DevOps or equivalent).
- Strong stakeholder engagement across Risk, Finance, and Technology.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to have
- Banking domain knowledge: capital measurement, risk and finance data, regulatory reporting environments.
- Experience with large-scale data modernization programs.
- Python scripting.
- VBA/Macros for legacy reporting.
- Microsoft Power BI certification (PL-300).
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Technology, Analytics, Finance, or related field.
